FRENCH EYEWEAR MANUFACTURERS
FOR OVER 30 YEARS

BREF is an OxibisGroup brand, an eyewear manufacturer based in the Haut-Jura (the birthplace of French eyewear!) for more than 30 years. So please excuse us if we get obsessed over detailing, finishes, the originality of the design, the comfort of our products, or even the quality of services we offer... It's an occupational hazard!
The idea of a brand dedicated to Responsible Design had been going round in our heads for some time. So, we decided to transform a personal conviction into a business plan. We thought about it, we talked about it, we did it!
So, although BREF means brief in English, the process wasn't short and snappy at all (and that’s a fact) ...
It took lots of research in collaboration with our partners to find the best processes and the ideal materials, to devise the most pleasing designs, and come up with good ideas for combining positive practices. And frankly, we're pretty proud of the result!

HOW DID WE GET HERE ?
ASK LÉO, GHIS AND AURÉLIA ...

After 5 years working alongside opticians, listening to their requirements and those of frame wearers,
Léo joined our family business to devise and construct the BREF brand together with our teams.
Armed with a new outlook on the latest trends and the world,
he brought with him the freshness of youth, a certain boldness,

assertive stylistic tastes, and a strong attachment to the Jura where he was born and raised.
His guiding mantra: simple things that look good.
Once in his role, Léo met Ghislain, a disruptive and activist designer. With a strong personal commitment to an environmentally responsible lifestyle (organic food, recycling, saving energy and resources), he's an avid learner who gets his information from every possible source.
They were then joined by Aurélia on this fascinating project. Equally invested and creative, she brought a complementary perspective, a touch of sensitivity and her assertive femininity. With the support of a highly energetic team and meticulous and motivated partners, BREF entered the vast world of eco-design, offering French-made, striking and iconic models with a delightfully assertive character.

Bref is all of us

We left as three; but through prompt reinforcements, we grew in numbers to 200 as we reached the port.

OK, we may be slightly overdoing it by quoting Corneille (the French playwright, not the French singer btw), but that's exactly what happened.Making a pair of glasses takes more than a click of the fingers and involves many different highly precise and skilfully executed phases. Ghislain draws a design, Fred prepares the material, Martial cuts it out, Bruno machines it, Carla brushes it, Béatrice shapes the frame, Christophe decorates it, Sandrine inserts the hinge, Marc inspects it, Valérie dispatches it, Sébastien displays it in his window, Lou walks past the store and thinks «those frames are cool, with the added bonus of being environmentally responsible». BREF IS ALL OF US.
We would have liked to name everyone, but we thought including 150 first names on this page might get a bit tricky. What we can say for sure is a big THANK YOU to all of them.

We're not big fans of fine words that encourage you to dream just a little too much. So, we tell you the truth, the whole truth. And nothing but the truth. We prefer to put our strengths and motivation into our products, and the quality of our services, rather than into lots of different communication tools (even though we must admit that we've carefully tended this website to offer you the best possible experience alongside us).

WHAT IF WE HAD AN OPTIMISTIC VIEW OF THINGS?

Consuming less is good but, more importantly, it should allow you to consume better!
Bref goes much further than local production and recycled materials. We're always looking to find smarter construction techniques and processes for more sustainable and eco-friendly eyewear. We recycle more, we give back more, we recover more. We give you the opportunity to treat yourself with beautiful, striking glasses featuring impeccable finishes and a strong character. Consuming responsibly shouldn't be a punishment (it should even be a pleasure).

Like the Rolling Stones, at BREF we believe that time is on our side. So, we focus on quality rather than quantity. With a philosophy that's the opposite of fast fashion, we take the time to offer you a product that's well-thought-out and well-made under respectful conditions. And a product that's durable so you can keep it for longer.

Our business is eyewear. And our guiding principle is that it must be reliable and comfortable to wear. So, as well as being environmentally responsible, our materials are safe, robust and comfortable. We tell you about them here.

WE'RE NOT PERFECT BUT WE'RE WORKING (HARD, VERY HARD) TO GET THERE

They say there's no such thing as perfection.
And it's even more true when it comes to eco-responsibility. The important thing is to challenge ourselves on a daily basis. So, we never rest on our laurels: we keep looking for innovative solutions to reduce our footprint even further, we listen to you, we change our behaviours, we debate with our partners, and we test ideas. We never stop!
And most importantly of all, we tell you everything, and we tell it straight: accurate product descriptions, the goals we've reached, and those that haven't yet come to fruition, the great ideas, and those that didn't make it (but still help us move forward!) In short, you have all the info you need to make your own choices, instead of having them dictated to you.
